Old barn finds are nearly as exciting as buying a new car. Perhaps even more so, because they are shrouded in mystery and long-forgotten history.
We found one.
The building, long abandoned, seemed to be an old warehouse of sorts. A decent sized, half-paved plot of land sat behind it. A couple glass doors and large windows gaped at us from the parking lot. Upon wiping some dust away from the glass, we were able to peer inside. Boarded windows let in a faint amount of light, allowing us to see the outline of something, something big, in a far corner engulfed in darkness. On the left side of the building, there was another normal door, locked, and a large metal roll-up door. Having acquired the plot from the previous owner, we were one key away from unveiling this treasure. We excitedly rushed to unlock the first door. A rush of musty, cold air wafted out of the building and let in some sunshine on the object covered.
Power had long been cut to the building, but luckily the large metal door had a means of manual operation. Wanting to shed more light on our find, we tugged on the chains and rolled up the door. Subsequently, we finally took in the full view of the guts of the building.
Cold concrete and yellow spray foam dominated the mostly empty space. Miraculously, large metal beam supports and foam looked to be holding the roof together. To the far right front, near the glass windows, broken walls gave way to an office space. Tucked in the close left corner was our find. It was haphazardly covered by a faded tarp as dusty as the bunnies underneath your bed.

…to find a long-lost forgotten Passat TDI! This little gem was somehow lost in the chaos of time, left neglected and alone. We imagine it sat through many’a cold night and stuffy days. Thankfully, we were here to take it in and give it a temporary loving home. A thorough check up and good scrub down later, it was up and running with our other fostered TDI models of similar origin.
