The 2021 Volkswagen ID.4 was a tremendously successful vehicle as it became the first US-bound Volkswagen built from the ground up as an electric vehicle.

The key phrase is the “ground up” part because Volkswagen’s first EV to the US market was the e-Gold — little more than a compact hatchback that ran on an electric motor powered by batteries. It was an excellent car to drive and offered a good value for money, but it lacked the range consumers now expect from modern EVs.

For 2022, Volkswagen has created the second iteration of the 2021 Volkswagen ID.4. The 2022 Volkswagen ID.4 is the second model of the company’s all-electric SUVs, and it features a design worthy of praise.

Volkswagen ID.4 VS Volkswagen

The VW ID.4 is slightly smaller than the auto maker’s Tiguan SUV in size. However, Volkswagen’s team made significant improvements to its design efficiency to make the interior more spacious than its size suggests. As a result, the 2022 Volkswagen ID.4 offers a similarly spacious interior as the Tiguan and other compact SUVs.

The Volkswagen ID.4 price for its Pro trim comes with an MRSP of $41,955. The electric SUV’s most high-end trim is the Pro Statement — a significant improvement from the 2021 Volkswagen ID.4 Pro S, and it comes with an MRSP of $50,135.

The editors at Cars.com have named the 2022 Volkswagen ID.4 the Top EV Pick for Value, owing to its incredible range, affordable starting price, and a suite of standard features. Hein Schafer, the Senior Vice President of Marketing and Strategy for Volkswagen of America, feels that the model receiving the award officially validates the auto maker’s intent with the ID.4 in delivering a high-quality EV to its customers with the best value for money.

How Much Does the 2022 Volkswagen ID.4 Cost?

With a starting MRSP of $41,955, the Editor-in-Chief at Cars.com, Jenni Newman, says that the compact SUV offers a substantial range for the car’s price. The ID.4 Pro is the base model with a rear-wheel-drive configuration that can deliver an estimated 280 miles on a single charge, and its all-wheel-drive trim Pro version can offer an EPA estimated range of 251 miles.

The 2022 Volkswagen ID.4 is the automaker’s first all-electric SUV built on the Volkswagen MEB electric vehicle architecture. The electric SUV boasts the IQ—Drive suite of active driver-assist and safety features as a standard feature in all its trims. The MEB EV architecture is Volkswagen’s modular electric drive matrix that strikes the perfect balance between performance, packaging, power, and value.

Among the improvements over the 2021 model, the 2022 Volkswagen ID.4 features a range extended by 20 miles. It also adds 135 kW DC fast-charging capability, Auto Hold, and Plug & Charge features. People purchasing the EV also get free access to three years’ worth of 30-minute fast-charging sessions through Electrify America. With its base model priced at an MRSP of $41,955 and its top-most trim priced at an MRSP of $50,135, the 2022 Volkswagen ID.4 is one of the best all-electric SUVs for the budget and environmentally conscious motorist today.
